CHICAGO -- Travis Wood got into trouble in the first inning when he walked the bases loaded before retiring Khris Davis on a grounder that kept the game scoreless. Roberto Alomar Jersey . After a simple tweak, Wood cruised the rest of the way. The left-hander retired 19 of his final 21 batters and pitched two-hit ball for seven innings as the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 on Sunday. "It was a struggle there in the first," Wood said. "We werent missing bad, but we were missing, so (there was) kind of a minor adjustment I had to make. I was kind of flying open a little bit there in the first after the first or second hitter, so we made it and were able to roll after that." Welington Castillo and Mike Olt homered for the Cubs, who took two of three from the NL Central leaders to win a series for the second time this season. Wood (4-4) allowed two runs and struck out seven. All three of his walks came in the first inning. "When he locates down into the corners, hes really, really effective," Chicago manager Rick Renteria said. The Cubs won their first series since taking two of three against the St. Louis Cardinals from May 2-4. "We had some timely hitting. Our pitching has been really good, and weve been able to close out the ballgames we lead," Renteria said. Hector Rondon earned his fifth save in five chances after allowing a leadoff double to Ryan Braun in the ninth for Milwaukees third hit. The Brewers, who began the day with the NLs best record, have scored 11 runs in five games. "He keeps the fastball away well. He throws the cutter inside to right-handers well and mixes in a curveball," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said about Wood. "He commanded the ball well, and were a little bit off offensively. Three hits, just not many guys on base to do things with." Marco Estrada (3-2) gave up four runs and seven hits -- five doubles and two homers -- in five innings. In nine games this season, Estrada has served up 12 home runs, second-most in the majors. "I was terrible, plain and simple. Terrible," Estrada said. "Ive got to figure things out. My off-speed pitches havent been there and thats whats letting me down, that and elevating the fastball when Im not trying to." Castillos two-run shot gave the Cubs a 2-0 lead in the second. Luis Valbuena scored on Castillos fifth homer after drawing a walk. The Cubs extended their lead to 3-0 in the third after Starlin Castro and Valbuena hit back-to-back doubles with two outs. Olt hit his team-leading ninth homer in the fourth to make it 4-0. He leads NL rookies in home runs. "Ive just gotten some good pitches to hit," Olt said. "As long as Im doing that, then Im happy. The home runs, I guess, have come in bunches. Hopefully I can keep it going." The Brewers got their first hit on Logan Schafers one-out double against Wood in the fifth. Two batters later, Rickie Weeks hit a two-run homer to cut the lead to 4-2. The Brewers had been scoreless for 20 straight innings, since the second inning on Friday. "The first inning or two, when you have a pitcher in trouble, you need to get to them early," Roenicke said. Bahrain and Gulf Cup champion Qatar were the third and fourth to go with a game remaining in the group stage, joining Kuwait and Oman.Given the way the draw was made, seven western zone teams could potentially have reached the quarterfinals. If three-time champion Saudi Arabia loses its last group game to Uzbekistan on Sunday, however, the likely number of West Asian teams advancing will be three — unless Jordan and Iraq somehow manage to shock defending champion Japan in Group D.Bahrains 2-1 loss to the United Arab Emirates in Canberra on Thursday and Qatars loss to Iran in Sydney came 48 hours after South Korea and Australia took the top two spots in Group A to eliminate Kuwait and Oman.UAE coach Mahdi Ali refused to talk about the region as a whole after the victory, set up with Ali Mabkhouts goal after 14 seconds.I am not in the position to judge other teams, in the region, Ali said. We came here to show that UAE is a good team and we have to represent our country in a good way and until now we are successful. We hope that we keep going in the same way.So far, there have been seven games pitting teams from opposite zones against each other. Six have been lost by the western region teams, with Saudi Arabias 4-1 win over North Korea the only result to buck the trend. The Saudis need just one point in their final group game against Uzbekistan to make the quarterfinals. So its quuite feasible that the 2015 will mirror the 2011 tournament in Qatar, when no Middle-Eastern teams made the semis. R.A. Dickey Blue Jays Jersey. Japan beat Australia in the final. South Korea and Uzbekistan lost in the semifinals. While the quantity has reduced, it remains to be seen if the quality is still there. The UAE has performed well with six goals in its opening two wins. Iran was solid against Bahrain and Qatar. Iraq, the other western team with a win to its name, won the title in 2007. None of those teams, though, has yet faced a team from outside its own region. There are some positive signs. UAE has three of the best attacking players in the tournament. Mabkhouts rapid opener against Bahrain added to his two goals against Qatar. Overall, the Al Jazira striker has eight from his last seven international games and Ahmed Khallil also scored twice against Qatar.Playmaker Omar Abdulrahman, one of the most exciting young players in Asia, believes that the pair can go on to star at the Asian Cup.I am very happy with Ali Mabkhouts performance and we are lucky to have two strikers and we will work hard to help them score more goals in the coming matches and we hope that one can become the top scorer in this tournament, he said. Our goal in this tournament is to do our best in the competition and achieve our goals. Also on Thursday, Irans Sardar Azmoun scored one of the goals of the tournament to defeat Qatar. The two young stars may meet on the pitch in the final Group C game on Monday as Iran takes on UAE to decide which team takes top spot.
